Sometimes when looking for fashion inspiration, it can be exciting to take a look backwards instead of forwards. In fashion, we are always thinking seasons ahead, and embracing the forever young, so I decided to take a look back for a new perspective.
Throughout the years I’ve continuously come across photos of Iris Apfel and thought, who is this fabulous lady? In a nutshell, Apfel is a respected interior designer, a retired contributor to Women’s Wear Daily, has created her own line for MAC cosmetics, teaches at fashion schools and has rumors of her own documentary in the works.
There are so many people we can look up to in fashion—editors, designers, bloggers and models, but when looking for inspiration, I love to see who really knows how to wear the clothes. Fashion isn’t just about knowing what’s on trend, it’s about dressing as an individual and adding unique creativity to each outfit. At 92, Apfel really knows how to turn heads. I can only hope to be living such a fashionably accomplished life at her age.
“I can’t tell people how to have style. No amount of money can buy you style. It’s just instinctive.” —Iris Apfel
