Maybe it’s the dark and stormy weather or maybe it’s the fact that most of the boots in my closet are brown, but I have a serious hankering for some new black boots. My desire grew when I discovered Novacas, a fabulous line of vegan shoes from Portugal. The company makes animal-friendly (vegan and synthetic), environmentally friendly and fair labor shoes, which are released twice each year in spring and fall collections. Its name—Novacas—means “no cows” in Spanish and Portuguese. I fall head over heels for companies whose stellar values are matched by gorgeous products—now if only their shoes were closer to my price range! Until then, two styles in the company’s Fall 2012 catalog sit atop my fashion wish list: the Meena ($159 from MooShoes.com) and the Annabelle ($229.95 from MooShoes.com).
