Her beauty was incomparable. Her talent, undeniable. Her fashion, unforgettable. Marilyn Monroe won us all over with her dazzling good looks, her iconic movie star status and her remarkable wardrobe choices. In memory of her birthday last week, I reflect on Marilyn, one of my fashion muses. Her style was so effortless like in this old black and white picture (above) from long ago. Cigarette pants, nude heels and a beautiful silhouette on a blouse from an era long gone.
Then there's this classic image with her striped top tucked into dark denim with a big cuff. This "look" is so simple to recreate, but it's not just the clothes that "wow"me. It's her sweet choice of unexpected loafers, her wavy hair tucked ever just so, and her ruby red lips that "make" the outfit.
And finally, another image of her in a casual outfit. The black keds with rolled up, baggy jeans and her cropped sweater are so stylish, so understated, yet so simply beautiful.
I turn to this movie star of all movie stars constantly for fashion inspiration, and where I actually find my "muse" most is in Marilyn's more relaxed fashion. It's here that the simple things and the unexpected fashion choices make her wardrobe so memorable.
