I often find that once the holidays begin, the days get so hectic that I often forget my manners. With all of our social engagements with family and friends and buying and wrapping gifts, it can be difficult to remember something as simple (and important) as a hostess gift. When I have time, I like to bring something special to say thank you to the person who is taking their time to host our holiday gathering. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but with a tiny bit of creativity you can show up with a beautifully wrapped gift that will be sure to put a smile on the host or hostess's face. Some of my favorites are a cozy blanket, a yummy candle and fancy hot chocolate. This gift might be perfect for a family with kids who needs a relaxing night in. Better yet, if you know what type of movies they enjoy, throw in a DVD.
If you are attending a New Year’s Eve party then a fancy bottle of Bloody Mary mix and some spicy Peppar Vodka might be fitting for the host who need a little pick me up the next day. Or, if you are unsure of your host's preferences. a beautiful platter, unique serving spoons and cocktail napkins are always a safe bet. Stores like Anthropologie, West Elm, and my favorite, Home Goods, are great places to get lots of the items in one shopping trip. But, the most important thing you can bring to any party is fun, so come relaxed and ready to celebrate and that will indeed make any host's day!
