Homemade Body Butter

This looks like a scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream, doesn’t it?  It’s actually a scoop of delicious body butter—the latest amazing beauty product dreamed up by my sister, Katherine. I was hooked on it while visiting her the other weekend: it’s the consistency of a creamy, whipped mousse, with a delightful dessert-like smell and intensely moisturizing, all-natural ingredients.

The luscious blend was comprised of cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E, and vanilla and sweet orange essential oils. For those interested in trying the recipe out, she says it would also work with cocoa butter and just one other oil, instead of the mix of the four mentioned oils. Here’s how it’s done: melt the cocoa butter and coconut oil (she uses cocoa butter wafers she buys in bulk online) and mix in the other ingredients. Place in the refrigerator to cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

The incredibly airy texture is achieved in the next steps: after removing from the refrigerator, mix with an electric mixture for three to five minutes. The purpose here is to get the product filled with air bubbles. Place back in the refrigerator, then whip again, and repeat until it comes to room temperature.
