Following many months of dealing with flaky, dry facial skin—an unfortunate side effect from using retinol products—I figured there had to be a solution. After much searching, I discovered the $6 answer—jojoba oil. As a long-time acne sufferer, I'm always reluctant to put oil on my face, but after reading about the popular oil cleansing face wash method (where you simply substitute your face wash with a face oil), I was curious. And, after reading about the myriad benefits of jojoba oil, I had to give it a try.
Jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax that comes from the seeds of jojoba plants. It can be used anywhere on the body (hair or skin) and its cure-all properties include removing makeup, conditioning hair, killing skin bacteria, reducing skin inflammation (perfect for those with acne), and providing intense moisture to the skin. I purchased a bottle from Trader Joe's and have never turned back. Following each time I wash my face, my skin is soft, and the flaky patches have disappeared. All for just $6. You can't beat that.
