Does this sound too good to be true? A non-toxic, long-wearing, vegan nail polish that improves nail health and comes in sustainable packaging. It's real. Aja Frierson, founder of Habit Cosmetics, launched the natural strengthening nail polish in 2013 described as “a granola-free green beauty that looks as good as it is.”
We caught up with Frierson to learn more about Habit Cosmetics.
What inspired you to create this line?
When I created Habit, I was a colorist in the fashion industry and I became enamored with the way that small pops of color can change a look. I was also obsessed with painting my nails, but all the polish I was using was starting to weaken them.
What hole did you think was missing in the cosmetics industry and how does Habit fill it?
I created Habit because there was no brand out there that had what I was looking for: a nail polish that strengthens your nails without all the toxins.
What makes Habit Cosmetics different and unique from other nail polishes?
Habit strengthens your nails without all the toxins. I also worked to make my packaging as sustainable as possible. To that end, we were the first brand to use a bamboo overcap and FSC-certified paperboard boxes.
What can someone expect to fall in love with about the line?
The thing that draws you in first are the colors and packaging. I tried to make Habit beautiful enough to leave out on your bathroom counter.
Can you tell me about the line ... how many colors/shades?
There are currently 32 colors in the line plus a base and top coat. And we come out with new colors at least once a year.
What's your own go-to beauty routine? What are your five must-haves for beauty products?
I start every day with R.L. Linden & Co's Thousand Petal Beautifying Mist (which smells amazing), Dr. Hauschka's Clarifying Day Oil, and Juice Beauty's Mineral Tinted Moisturizer.
When I want to pamper my skin, I love cleansing with Moss' Beurre Celeste, which smells good enough to eat and is so natural, I'm sure you could make a meal of it. And lately, I've been obssesed with this super affordable Rosewater & Glycerin facial spray by Heritage Store. I get it at Whole Foods, and I use it throughout the day whenever I want a little moisture boost, a pick-me-up and some aromatherapy.
I'm also always moisturizing my nails and cuticles, and the lovely ladies of R.L. Linden & Co. gave me a sample of the most wonderful cuticle treatment cream. I've been using it religiously, but I don't think they've come out with it yet.
