Summer Essentials List

As we say goodbye to spring and welcome warmer days, it’s the perfect time to stock up on a few must-haves for an active, stylish summer.

Sunglasses: A great pair of sunglasses can be your best sunny-day accessory. When heading to the beach or pool, opt for inexpensive, trendy sunnies. You can look great without spending a lot, and you won’t need to worry about your sunglasses getting scratched, broken or lost. This summer, I’ll be wearing round frames in a variety of colors. (Sunglasses pictured range from $12 to $55.)

Sea Salt Spray: Sea salt spray is a quick and easy way to get that “I spent the day at the beach” look. Whatever your hair type, you can get beachy waves with a sea salt spray like this one from Brooklyn Beach. For the best results, spray on damp hair from root to tip. Twist and scrunch your hair as it dries naturally or as you blow dry. If you’re the DIY type, here’s a recipe to make your own.

Tank Top: 'Tis the season to get active, and you’ll need a go-to tank top for whatever summer brings—running, hiking, stand up paddling, yoga, or your favorite barre class. Pick a high-quality tank that is lightweight, soft and breathable. I recommend this tank, which has Ultraviolet Protection Factor 50+ and is my favorite tank all year round because of the flattering fit. Embrace bright colors for the ultimate summer look.

Natural Makeup: You should layer on the sunscreen, but keep everything else light. As summer approaches, I ditch heavy products and stock my makeup bag instead with a good concealer to cover blemishes, waterproof mascara and multi-tasking products like this cheek and lip stain from local Santa Cruz favorite Urb Apothecary. Let your natural beauty shine.

Rosé: This wine pairs perfectly with a pair of shorts, flip-flops and friends. From the beach to barbeques, it’s rosé all day.
