I didn’t set resolutions this year, but I do have a to-do list. OK, let’s be real: I have several to-do lists. One of them I’m calling my “Get It Together List,” and it’s all about conquering some basic things that have somehow eluded me all these years.
Maybe it’s because I’m turning 30 this year, or maybe it’s because I’m recently engaged—both are occasion for finally figuring out this whole “adult” thing. You know, like no longer wearing socks with holes in them*. Being a married 30-year-old whose big toe is always sticking out of tattered socks just doesn’t have the same charm as being a single 20-something with holey socks. Here’s what else I have in store for my big year of getting my sh*t together:
-Get fitted for a bra. I’m 29 and I’ve never done this. And I hate bras. I’ve heard a fitting changes everything, so I look forward to seeing for myself.
-Find the perfect natural face makeup that actually matches my skin (this has proved strangely hard) and gives flawless coverage. I’ve never worn much in the way of face makeup, but I have a coming year full of special occasions (and being photographed) that warrant a nicely presentable face.
-Learn to darn socks. (*See above comment about my exposed-toe problem.)
-Finally finding my hair stylist. I’ve lived in the same town for 11-plus years and have bounced from salon to salon, never sticking with one place or stylist for more than a few visits. It’s time I settled down and found my hair the soul mate it deserves. It’s a challenge because my hair—an unruly mane of frizzy curls and waves—is challenging. But I’m ready to find that special someone who’s up for the challenge.
Wish me luck!
