I've never been a fan of ruffles. When they are popular and in stores, I don't give them a chance. I slide by, reaching for their un-flounced neighbor. This year they are on trend again for spring and I have to admit that there are a few I might not pass over.
From the runway, I'm especially drawn to the smaller, deconstructed ruffles seen at Balenciaga (top left), and the breezy, '70s look at Michael Kors, (bottom right). The beautiful, green skirt from Balmain I can make a case for: the supple suede keeps it from being overly fluffy. But speaking of fluffy, I am surprised to like the flowing purple print from Giambatista Valli.
For everyday life, I went to The Penny Rose perpetual favorite and did some digging at Anthropologie where I found two dresses; the pale pink with an architectural ruffle is fabulous and I'm loving the retro quality of the printed one. This gorgeous top would be a staple all year round, while the hoodie with it's soft ruffle, has a sweetness which is hard to find in that particular silhouette. Maybe I am a fan of ruffles after all.
