What is a free-spirited bride to do when the wedding dress industry doesn’t exactly speak to her style? How can she find something that’s beautiful, unique and budget friendly—and free of bedazzling or excessive poofiness? The task seemed close to impossible a few years back when Yanique Barnes’ friend was shopping for a wedding dress. So Barnes decided to do something about it and, in 2012, her boutique dress line Dreamers & Lovers was born. The Torrence, Calif.-based outfit is a haven of exquisite (and affordable!) boho gowns; in the company’s own words, these are “dresses without the stuffing” and “dresses for the laid-back bride.” But don’t let those humble epithets fool you—these dresses are intricate, gorgeously crafted works of art. I recently visited the studio for a fitting and was blown away by the beauty of each and every dress, not to mention Barnes’ own loveliness (it was a treat to meet the actual designer at a fitting—that definitely wasn’t the case at any other dress shop I visited). Here are a few of her creations that are delicious eye candy, even if you’re not in the market for a wedding dress.
