Back in January, I wrote about how 2016 was going to be the year I mastered this whole adult thing. There were a few specific tasks that had always eluded me that I finally wanted to conquer. A few months later, I can proudly say I’ve tackled most of them: I was fitted for a bra for the first time ever and was shocked to learn how wildly wrong I’ve always been about what size bra I wore. I found a curly hair guru at a wonderful salon (Lauren McLaughlin, of Salon on the Square in Santa Cruz), and have gotten serious about treating my curls with the respect they deserve. I am still wearing socks with holes in them, but it’s only April. There’s still hope.
Most exciting, though, is the progress I’ve made in finding face makeup that will work for my wedding this summer. As someone who keeps my makeup light (just Juice Beauty tinted moisturizer and Mineral Fusion concealer duo for under-eye circles), I knew I needed to up the ante for my wedding look.
“Natural but flawless.” “Like myself but amped up.” “Great in photos, but not caked-on in person.” Those are descriptions I used when recently telling Whole Foods Market Santa Cruz’s makeup specialist, Paige, how I wanted my makeup to look for my big day. She totally got it and jumped into some expert recommendations.
Of everything I tried, here are my favorites:
-Mineral Fusion Mattifying Primer: of all of this company’s awesome primers, this one is a safe bet for being photographed, since it reduces shine. I love the silky texture and how it instantly absorbs and softens.
-Pacifica Dreamy Cover Bare-Faced Serum Foundation SPF 20: This is the first natural foundation I’ve used and truly, honestly liked. It gives full, even coverage, blends wonderfully, and is light feeling (I can’t stand feeling like there’s makeup on my face).
-Mineral Fusion Radiance Illuminating Powder: This foursome has everything you need on the blush/bronzer/highlighter front.
Used with my trusty Mineral Fusion concealer duo where needed, this combo passed my tests (lasting all day and looking good in both indoor and outdoor photos) and has earned its way into the wedding day beauty plan.
You can find all of these products and more at Whole Foods Markets. All makeup, polishes, and makeup tools will be 25 percent off May 6-8 during the global Whole Foods Mother’s Day makeup sale.
