The Makeup Chair: Cassandra Crow

The Makeup Chair is a monthly column by Jillian Wilkey, a professional makeup artist in the Bay Area.

Cassandra Crow, owner of Nevada City's groovy vintage clothing business, Electric Love Company, is the epitome of a modern '70s babe. Her hair is feathered to perfection and she's always in head-to-toe vintage. "I love everything from the glamour of Cher to the grit of the Runaways to the psychedelic getups of Jimi Hendrix," says Crow.

The self-proclaimed shopaholic is no amateur to selling vintage and has been at it since she was 18. Her vintage wares can be found online and at Santa Cruz’s Tomboy. “Selling at Tomboy really catapulted me into taking things more seriously," she says. "About one year ago, I started my business, Electric Love Company, which is my pride and joy. I've successfully transformed my shopping addiction into a strength to share with fellow fashion lovers and I wouldn't change that for the world.”

What’s in Cassandra’s bag?

1. T3 SinglePass Twirl Curling Iron

I couldn't live without this iron. I always start my day off with a little curl. This particular one is a total dream and never fails to give me big, effortless curls. Your hair is your crown. You can't have a bad day with great hair.

2. AVA Protective Oil

When curling my hair, I use a spritz of AVA Hair Care's Protective Oil. I just discovered this product and I am obsessed. It isn't too heavy, but just enough to keep those frizzy days on lock. Not to mention the scent is absolutely divine.

3. MAC's Fluidline Eyeliner Gel

I'm pretty new to the makeup game (I was a tomboy growing up) but, I like to give my eyes a little pop. I use MAC's Fluidline with an angled brush on the outer corners. Then, I finish it off with Rodial's Glamolash Mascara for big, full, thick lashes.

4. Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage BB Cream

When I'm feeling like I need extra oomph, I'll use Jane Iredale's BB Cream and a dash of bronzer for a bit of glow. It gives me just the right amount of coverage while still looking fresh and natural. Not to mention, the BB Cream is light as a feather.

5. Rodial's Glamstick

No look is complete without a hint of something on the lips. I top things off with Rodial's Glamstick in Psycho for a beachy bronzy '70s look.

The Makeup Chair: What's In Her Bag

The Makeup Chair is a monthly column by Jillian Wilkey, a professional makeup artist in the Bay Area.

Noelle Weatherwax is a second-generation cosmetologist and the owner of Concrete Rose Salon in Santa Cruz, Calif. She describes her personal style as a mix between Miss Frizzle from The Magic School Bus, Gwen Stefani, and Peg Bundy. When she's not busy making people feel beautiful, she's either tearing up the dance floor with her husband, talking to her cats like a crazy person, or watching a tacky reality show about people from New Jersey. Weatherwax has an indescribable uniqueness. In her own words, here's what's in her bag:

Anastasia Liquid Lipstick: I love this formula. I prefer a matte finish with my lip rings, otherwise product can end up all over my face. This liquid lipstick stays all day and adds extra drama without looking like its Halloween. My favorite shade is Vamp.

Jerome Russell Pixie Sparkle: This has been part of my beauty routine since the sixth grade. I like to add a little bit around the inner corner of my eyes and brow bone. Glitter is always appropriate.

Phillip Kingsley One More Day: I only wash my hair once a week so I need something to get me through it. What I like most about this dry shampoo vs. others is that it is antimicrobial, which means it actually cleanses your scalp. Not only does One More Day soak up the oil, it smells super yummy. too.

Jane Iredale PurePressed Foundation: This is the only product that when I wear it, people compliment my skin, not my makeup.

Nars Blush in Orgasm: A cult favorite, this is a universal shade with just the right amount of peach and pink. I like to use this as a blush and on my eyes.

Next month we'll be finding out what Jennalee Dahlen, owner of Santa Cruz Skin Solutions, has in her bag.
