Easy breezy wintery days at the beach require a scarf, some booties, and a good mix of patterns, like those seen here. Cheetah can work as a neutral and it always goes well with red. Add some stripes and jeans by Rachel Comey, and the outfit is both stylish and festive.
This year The Penny Rose production team worked on a handful of creative projects together including our Wizard of Oz summer shoot, Synergy Organic Clothing catalog, Fall 2014 photo spread, and our Downton Abbey-inspired holiday shoot. These are a few of our favorite images this year, all taken by photographer Nick Chao. Join us in 2014 for more exciting photo shoots.
From Dec. 2-6, here at The Penny Rose, we'll be featuring our annual Holiday Fashion Week photo spread courtesy of photographer Nick Chao and creative director Christa Martin. Here's a teaser of what's coming. Each day of next week we'll feature holiday fashion told through the eyes of three sisters. Video and music by Nick Chao.
In all my years of loving fashion, I've never leaned toward the peplum. For a curvy girl like me, who has a small waist and wide hips, I always thought this would be a major fashion disaster and would showcase my figure in an unflattering way. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Recently, I tried on a peplum at Anthropologie and was thoroughly impressed with how it actually cinched in my waist and provided a slimming silhouette to my worrisome areas. Since then, I've been on a hunt for as many affordable peplums as I can find. I'm learning how to make them with my friend/fellow blogger Sally Esposito (who created the design above). A limited collection of these hand-made one-of-a-kind peplums (each one is slightly different) are for sale at Stripe, a boutique in Santa Cruz. If you can't get to Stripe, you can custom order one by contacting Esposito directly. Below are a collection of some of my favorites in all styles—pink and coral, floral, stripes, and polka dots. Trust me, this is one of the most figure-flattering silhouettes I've found thus far. (Shop the look below.)
The Penny Rose was just featured in a cover story in Good Times, a Bay Area magazine. Part of the cover story package included a special feature on one of our writers, Sally Esposito, whose designs are featured here (peplum photo and headshot by Nick Chao). Congratulations, Sally!
