Back on Track

I’m freshly returned from a strenuous desert camping trip, and my body has yet to fully recover to an acceptable appearance. Luckily, there are a host of natural fixes to get my tresses, skin, fingers and toes back on the beauty track. Last night, after returning with matted, dry hair, I massaged a generous amount of coconut and argan oil into my crispy locks, put on a shower cap, and let it soak in over night. After shampooing this morning, my hair is even softer and more relaxed than usual. Next, I faced my chapped lips and nose and battered fingertips with my new favorite eco-beauty cure-all: Waxelene (pictured). An all-natural alternative to Vaseline, Waxelene is free of petroleum and soothes, repairs and protects dry, damaged skin. Now all that’s left are my feet—no easy task, considering the sorry, cracked and scuffed-up state they’re in. I plan to first soak them in a hot water, vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar) and essential oil bath, and follow that up with a Salt Honey Foot Scrub (recipe below courtesy of This simple-yet-delightful concoction exfoliates effectively and leaves feet soft and feeling relieved—just what I need! 

Salty Honey Foot Scrub Recipe:

3 tablespoons honey

1/2 cup sea salt

1 tablespoon almond or olive oil

Mix together and apply to feet in a circular motion until salt starts to dissolve.
