Favorite Five

When it comes to springtime, we believe everyone deserves a treat after all that cleaning. At The Penny Rose, we're striking up a new, regular feature—Favorite Five—where we'll share a list of local goodies we're eyeing. In today's Favorite Five, we highlight some old favorites and several new finds.

  1. Leila Lou – This unique scent is perfect for those who love a fresh, feminine, subtle fragrance. If you enjoy this scent as much as we do, it's also available in candles and lotion. Leila Lou can be found at Stripe in downtown Santa Cruz.

  5. Feminine Intimates – Hanky Panky and Cosabella make comfortable, sexy intimates for women. We adore the design of these styles, as well as the myriad springtime colors. Available at Pacific Trading Company and Camouflage in downtown Santa Cruz.

The Nose Knows

Fragrance is such a personal thing. Everyone’s nose has a different preference. That’s why it can be so hard to find a universally flattering scent that will appeal to the masses. However, I'd argue that I have found just that—Leila Lou, which comes in a perfume, candle and body lotion, and for Santa Cruz readers, it’s sold at Stripe in downtown Santa Cruz.

Just a dollop of this hand lotion makes me feel like the prettiest girl in the room. It’s delicate and feminine, smelling like the most aromatic flower garden you've ever walked by. The company explains that it has “notes of pear, fresh cut grass and tangerine."

Taking a poll of others who have tried it, Leila Lou is an across-the-board winner. The creator behind the line is Rosie Jane Johnston, a celebrity makeup artist. The fragrance is said to have earned fans such as Jennifer Garner, Rachel Bilson, Jennifer Aniston and Liv Tyler. I’m not surprised. Each of those women has noteworthy taste in the clothes they wear. And so it seems fitting that their perfume and body lotion choices are equally striking.

Leila Lou is sold at Stripe, 107 Walnut Ave., Santa Cruz, stripedesigngroup.com, or online at leilalou.com.
